Rank Identification

Home / Rank Identification

During my collecting time I was often unable to identify the correct rank of officer’s above the rank of sergeant (Sgt) based on the insignia sewn onto the hat/cap and this was especially Relevant to Female Headwear and those serving in Scotland. Most forces seem to follow the same rank identifying insignia with slight variation being the Metropolitan (Met) and the City of London (COL). The Met and COL forces have an additional rank being that of Commander and both use the rank of Commissioner rather than that of Chief Constable.
